Moxied Up represented at The 2nd Annual Mercy Car Show To Support Mercy Employees
September 20, 2025...Rick and Martha Gossett brought their 1995 Mustang GT convertible to the Joplin Mercy Cancer Center parking lot. Dani’s dad, Dave Gossett, was the previous owner of this car. Rick restored it. The car was useful to tell a story of moxie. Dani was her dad’s caregiver while he endured Alzheimer's. After he passed, Dani was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Though Dave succumbed to the disease that invaded his brain and devastated his body, Dani survived her ordeal. The three family members shared good memories and spread awareness of ovarian cancer and the organizations who are so supportive. There were also on display the limited edition Ovarian Cancer Awareness Mugs made by Dani’s son and caregiver, Chadan, who is a local artist/potter (see drybranchhandmade.com). It was so important to Dani to share her gratitude for Mercy’s part in her journey to better health and for how the Mercy Team helped her Dad. The Mercy teams in both Joplin and Springfield provided and are still providing the Gossett family great health care services with staff members that have become more like family than just caregivers. This opportunity to give to Catherine’s Cupboard was a great way to ensure Mercy employees are taken care of in their time of need. There is information about Catherine’s Cupboard at mercyhealthfoundation.net.
In a side note Dani still has her 1966 Mustang that she and her dad restored in the early 1990’s. It needs a lot of work and she has hope it too can be fixed back up. It too is a teal car. There is always hope for Teal Warriors and cool old cars.
Crystal Tena Explains Benefit of Counseling
(Source: Facebook -Side by Side Counseling)
Sometimes we mistake coping for healing.
We try to manage the symptoms: the racing thoughts, the heavy chest, the quiet tears in the car.
We add more self-care routines, hoping something will finally work.
And when it doesn’t we assume we’re the problem.
Here’s the truth: self-care *can* soothe the moment…but it can’t untangle the years of pressure, pain, or survival mode.
That’s what counseling is for.
It doesn’t just help you “feel better.” It helps you understand why it’s been so hard to feel okay in the first place.
It gives you a safe space to slow down, to actually feel what you’ve been holding, and to learn new ways to carry it that don’t cost you your peace.
You don’t have to keep pushing through silently.
You don’t have to carry it all alone.

Weather Report

Try “emotional weather reporting” – check in with yourself like you’re giving a weather forecast. “Today I’m feeling partly cloudy with a chance of anxiety, but there’s some sunshine breaking through.” It helps you acknowledge your feelings without judgement and reminds you that emotions, like weather, are always changing. Unstoppable Joy empowers cancer warriors through self-care and community. This nationwide organization provides free services to individuals and families affected by cancer Check out their website: www.unstoppablejoyco.org.Unstoppable Joy is hoping to reach more families and secure additional sponsors to support their mission in the Joplin area.
